Leta was born in 1915 in Byhalia, Ohio. She was the daughter of Clarence Earl Vandermark and Augusta Brant.
She married Eugene Jones on July 6, 1935. They had one son, Gary Lynn Jones, born Feb 4, 1943.
She passed away in 2001 and is buried at Ottawa River Cemetery in Rimer, Putnam County, Ohio.
Erma Jones COLUMBUS GROVE --
Erma Oleta Jones, 85, of Lima, and formerly of Columbus Grove, died at 3:53 a.m. Friday, Feb. 2, 2001 at University Hospital, Columbus. She was born Dec. 11, 1915 in Byhalia to Clarence E. and Augusta E. (Brant) Vandemark. She married Eugene A. Jones on July 6, 1935, and he survives. Also surviving are a son, Gary of Atlantic Beach, Fla.; two grandchildren; a great-grandchild; a brother, Robert Vandemark, Ayersville; and four sisters, Otha Jenkins, Fort Myers, Fla.; Ruth Hurley and Betty Holmes, both of Lima; and Margaret Stennette, Green Valley, Ariz. She was preceded in death by four brothers, Virgil, James, Harold and Lawrence Vandemark.
Mrs. Jones was a homemaker. She was a member of Ottawa River Church of God, Rimer.
b. in Union County Ohio 11 Dec. 1915; m. Eugene A. Jones on July 6, 1935. Eugene b. 29 June 1916 was the son of Amos L. and Eva (Logan) Jones. Amos was b. 11 Aug. 1882 and died 1 Oct. 1981. They lived their entire life in Putnam County Ohio.
Erma Oleta was born in Union County, Ohio and lived there just three months, returning to Putnam County with her family. Leta graduated from high school at Vaughsville, Ohio in 1933. One of Leta's fondest memories is having been cheerleader for three happy years.
Gene and Leta dated in school and were married in 1935. After their marriage they lived in Columbus, Youngstown, Ohio, Syracuse, N.Y. and Detroit, Mich. at which time Gene worked for Wurlitzer Music Company. In 1939 they were off to Washington D.C. where they worked for Kitt-Jordan Music Company, at that time Gene and Leta lived in Takoma Park, Maryland.
In 1943, Gene went off to serve his country during World War II. serving in England, France, Germany, Belguim and Austria. Leta came back to Ohio and lived in Defiance from 1943 to 1946. Then it was packing time again and back to Washington D.C. they went, and in 1958, were transferred to Norfolk, VA, working for Temple of Music which was also owned by the Jordan foundation. Gene was Vice President and General Manager of four music stores in the Tidewater area, living in Virginia Beach, stayed there 17 years and then moved to Raleigh, N.C. working there for Stephenson Music and then Grinnell Music Company and transferred back to Lima, Ohio. After Grinnell's, Gene and Leta operated a flea market and craft shop until January 1992. In Leta's words "IT WAS A FUN EXPERIENCE WORKING TOGETHER."
