George (Vane) Vane-Tempest is Notable.
- He was born George Henry Vane in 1821 in Austria, his name was legally changed to Vane-Tempest by Royal LIcense in 1851.
- George was educated at Eton College and Balliol College, Oxford University.
- After graduating he spent 3 years in the Military - the 1st Life Guards - and then entered politics as the MP for North Durham.
- He then entered the House of Lords after inheriting his fathers title of Marquis of Londonderry in 1854.
- George was sent on one trip to Russia (as envoy) to award the Order of the Garter to Tsar Alexander II.
