Biography

William Verco was born on 7 Feb 1848 in Adelaide, South Australia, Australia, son of Richard Verco (1821 - 1903) and Jane (Hales) Verco (~1824 - 1916) ^[1].

Born in Morphett street 76 years ago, he had lived in Adelaide almost all his life. From his earliest years he was associated with the Grote-street Church of Christ, and he took a keen interest in its welfare. Of a genial and kindly nature, he was a friend to all, and his influence was an inspiration for good on those with whom he came in contact. Until a few months ago, when he was seized with a serious illness, Mr. Verco enjoyed robust health, and he bore his sufferings with patience and resignation. He was an upright Christian gentleman, and his loss will be keenly regretted. He was the eldest son of Mr. and Mrs. Richard Verco, of Wright-street, and he has left a widow, five sons, and one daughter. The sons are Mr. Frederick Verco (Sydney), Mr. William Verco (Grafton, N.S.W.), Mr. Harold Verco (Fremantle),

and Messrs. Albert and Cyril Verco, of Adelaide, and the only daughter, Mrs. G. Borthwick, of First-avenue, Joslin^[2].

William married Anne Bates (~1860 - ) in 1873 in Adelaide ^[3].

William died on 30 Jun 1924 in Miss Lawrence's private hospital, Wakefield-street, Adelaide, South Australia aged 76^[2].
