He enlisted in the Australian Imperial Force on 10th December 1914 during the First World War as a medical doctor.[2] He embarked with the 6th Light Horse Regiment on 21st December 1914 aboard HMAT Suevic A29.[3] He died of dysentry on 8th September 1915 at Alexandria, Egypt and is buried in the Chatby Military and War Memorial Cemetery, Alexandria, Egypt. Arthur Verge's name is located at panel 184 in the Commemorative Area at the Australian War Memorial, Canberra.[4]
