John Viall was born January 12, 1721 (possibly 1721/1722 - uncertain),[1] and possibly in Runney Marsh, Massachusetts.

John 'Vial' was married to Elizabeth Donnelly on May 5, 1747 in Newport.[1][2]

John Viall, (1721-1803), was appointed ensign 1780; lieutenant 1781 of the senior class of Rhode Island artillery. He died in Providence, R.I. [3]

John died September 30, 1803 aged 85, and was buried in Swan Point Cemetery in Providence. The inscription on the gravestone reads:[4]

JOHN VIALL
who departed this life
September 30th 1803
in the 85th year of his age
