Raphael Loyd Vogt was born 23 Jan 1920, Nobles County, Minnesota. He is a son of Daniel Vogt and Amy Meester. [1]
During World War II, he enlisted in the Army on 18 Apr 1942. He attended Basic Training at Fort Ord Army Base, Monterey County, California. He was a Private, and assigned to the 15th Infantry, 3rd Infantry Division. He was first sent overseas to North Africa, and then his unit moved to Italy. On 25 May 1944, his unit came ashore at Anzio beachhead, Italy. Raphael was the driver of a tank, and when he landed on the beach his tank ran over a mine, killing Raphael. [2][3]
Raphael died on 25 May 1944, Anzio, Roma, Lazio, Italy. He is buried in the Pleasant View Cemetery, LIttle Rock, Lyon County, Iowa. [4][5]
