When James Alexander Waddell was born on May 9, 1787, in Lesmahagow, Lanarkshire, Scotland, his father, John, was 31 and his mother, Jean Thomson, was 27. He married Margaret Brodie on January 21, 1821, in Lanarkshire, Scotland. They had ten children in 22 years. He died on March 7, 1870, in Kings, New Brunswick, Canada, having lived a long life of 82 years, and was buried there.
