Harvey Waddington was born 26 Oct 1892 in Newburgh, Orange County, New York[1] to Ulysses[2] and Fanny (Harvey) Waddington.[3] During the summer of 1899, his family moved to Bridgeport, Fairfield County, Connecticut (see Research Notes below). In 1906, they moved to Yonkers, New York, where Harvey graduated from high school. Then they settled in the NY City metro area in 1909.[4] In 1910, at the age of 17, Harvey was working as a clerk at an office in NY City.[5] In 1915, he was reported to be working as an electrician.[6]

Harvey served in the New York State National Guard Signal Corp from 1917-1919, during WW1. [7][8] He requested to have a post overseas, but his request was denied because they needed his knowledge and skills more in the US than in Europe or Asia.[9]

After his honorable discharge from the National Guard, Harvey attended Radio School while living in Long Branch, New Jersey (1920).[10] In 1921, he entered the training program at Camp Edwards, Sea Girt, to join the State of New Jersey Mountie Police division.[11] He used his radio skills while working for the Police Department, installing the first radios in their police cruisers.[9]
Harvey and Mary Renner Curry were married on 29 November 1934 (Thanksgiving Day) at the home of C.H. Keslake in Trenton, New Jersey (NJ). Both were current members of the Asbury Park NJ Seventh-day Adventist Church.[12][13]This marriage was later anulled on ???[14]

Other career positions Harvey held until his retirement include "Agent" (1930) for the New Jersey Central Railroad,[19] "Watchman" for the city government (1940, Belmar, New Jersey),[20] and "Radio Mechanic" at Fort Monmouth (New Jersey).[21]

Harvey was an active member in his community, including joining the Shark River Hills Fire Department as Fire Police (May 1949-Jan 1965), helping with the Neptune Pathfinder Club (1955), and attending the Neptune Seventh-day Adventist Church with his family.[21]
In the last few months of 1964, Harvey was diagnosed with untreatable cancer. He was admitted to the Williamsport Sanitarium in Williamsport, Maryland. And it was there that he died, on 1 January 1965, at the age of 72.[22]
Harvey was buried on 5 January 1965 at Beverly National Cemetery (Beverly, New Jersey).[23] His tombstone is inscribed, in part, "New York, SGT, SIGNAL CORP".[24]
