George William Married Mary Bainbridge Gasston on 4 Oct 1933 in Reigate, Surrey, England.^[2] She was the daughter of Francis Strong Gasston and Margaret Ann Mellish Bainbridge.

As a young man, George William Ward worked as a golf caddie at Walton Heath Golf Club in the lage 1920s. By the late 1930's he was working as a shop porter and iron monger.^[3]
