John was born in 1809. He was the son of John Waring and Elizabeth Bowie. He passed away in 1871.
This gentleman at his residence, near Nottingham, Prince George's county, Md., last week, says: "A native and life-long residentof this county, Colonel Waring was personally known to and esteemed by nearly every citizen within her borders. Of singularly agreeablo manners and most genial disposition, his society was sought by the old and the youug, with whom ho was alike popular. The unrighteous persecution to which he was subjected for mere opinion's sako in the late war, the banishment of his family, aud bis own arrest and long confinement in federal prisons, but served to strengthen tho boud which united bim to our people by that other strong tie of sympathy. It will be remembered that be was pardoucd from Fort Delaware by President Lincoln iu 1801. since wbicli timo tia has bcou residing at his old homestead on the Patnxput, and devoting himself to agricultural pursuits. Returning from Baltimore recently he contracted a Revere cold, which resulted iu typhoid pneumonia, and terminated his lifo. Col. Waring was a sou of tho late Johu Waring, of this county, had just attained the sixty-third year of his age a few days before his death, possessed a vigorous mind, well stored with useful Information and up to the time of his last illness enjoyed most excellent health."
