Biography

Edward was born about 1786 in Westleigh, Lancashire.[1] He married Alice Darwin on November 16, 1811 at Saint John in Preston, Lancashire.[2]

When their son, Joseph, was six years old, he was convicted of larceny in 1820 and sentenced to 6 months in prison.[3] Afterward, they had William, John and Ellen [4]. He was again convicted, this time for poaching in the night time along with his two oldest sons, and was sentenced to 15 months in prison in 1841.[5]

In 1851, at the age 0f 65, he was living with Alice in Penrith and working as a farm labourer. William, John and Ellen (Helen) were still living at home, the boys also working as farm labourers, and Ellen and Alice as domestics.[6] By 1861, Alice had passed away, and he was living with his sons William and John, his daughter Helen and her husband William Clementon, all of the men listed as labourers despite Edward's advanced age of 77.[7]

He passed away in 1863.[8]
