Biography

Dorothy Wass was born at Sutton in Ashfield, Nottinghamshire, England in 1818, the daughter of John Wass and Frances (Herod) Wass. She was baptised at St Mary's Church, Sutton in Ashfield on 8th February 1818.^[1]

She lived with her father and brothers at Lord Street, Sutton in Ashfield on the 1841 census.^[2]

She married William Lee at St Martin's Church, Alfreton, Derbyshire on 10th February 1845.^[3] Witnesses to the marriage were James Lee and Eliza Herrod.

The 1861 census records William & Dorothy at Pinxton Green, Kirkby in Ashfield, Nottinghamshire, with five children. Living with them was William's widowed father, William.^[4]

The 1871 census records William, Dorothy and their family at Portland Colliery, Kirkby in Ashfield.^[5]

On the 1881 census, William & Dorothy still lived at Pinxton Green, Kirkby in Ashfield, Nottinghamshire, with sons John & Joseph.^[6]

Dorothy died in February 1890 at Pinxton,^[7] and was buried at St Helen's, Pinxton, Derbyshire on 27th February 1890, aged 72.^[8]
