Biography

David Waterbury was born about 1655 in Stamford, Connecticut to parents John Waterbury and Rose Taylor Lockwood.

He married first Sarah Newman (daughter of William Newman) about 1682.

They had the following children:

  1. John Waterbury, b. 25 Jan 1681/82[1]
  2. Elizabeth Waterbury, b. 17 Jan 1683/84[2]
  3. Sarah Waterbury, b. 10 Jan 1684/85[3]

He married second Sarah Weed (daughter of Daniel Weed) on 11 Aug 1698 in Stamford, Connecticut.

They had the following children:

  1. Ruth Waterbury, b. 1699[4]
  2. David Waterbury, b. 1701[5]
  3. Ebenezer Waterbury, b. 1703[6]
  4. Mercy Waterbury, b. 1705/06[7]

David died on 20 Nov 1706 in Stamford, Connecticut.

David Waterbury's Will: "Waterbury, David, Sr., Lieut., late of Stamford, dated Mar. 24, 1703/4,[8] probated Jan. 28, 1706/7, mentioned his wife Sarah, and children John, David, Ebenezer, Elizabeth, has had her portion, Sarah, has had her portion, and Ruth. Executrix his wife. Witnesses Joseph Turney, Joseph Knapp, and Abraham Weed, page 99. Nov. 20, 1706, codicil dated, Mercy, who was born since the date of the will, given land bought of Susannah Bell, page 99.

Inventory was taken Dec. 1706,[8] by Samuel Hait, Daniel Scofield, and Stephen Bishop, mentioned his daughters Elizabeth How and Sarah Weed, and filed Jan. 28, 1706/7, page 99a.. Feb. 7, 1711/2, Isaac How acknowledged the receipt of the share of his wife Elizabeth in said estate, page 70a. Feb. 7, 1711/2, Jonas Weed acknowledged the receipt of the share of his wife in said estate page 70a. Feb. 1, 1715/6, David, a son of decedent, made the choice of his brother-in-law Jonas Weed, to be his guardian; the court-appointed Isaac How of Stamford to be the guardian of Ebenezer, another son of the decedent; Ruth, a daughter of decedent, made the choice of her brother-in-law Jonas Weed, to be his guardian; the court-appointed Isaac How of Stamford to be the guardian of Ebenezer, another son of the decedent; Ruth, a daughter of decedent, made the choice of her brother-in-law Jonas Weed to be her guardian; and the court-appointed Jonas Weed to be the guardian of Mercy, another daughter of decedent, page 368.
