Ephraim was born in Duxbury, Massachusetts, in 1757, the son of Ephraim Waterman and Betty Delano.[1] He was christened on April 23, 1757, in Pembroke, MA.[2] He served an apprenticeship, presumably for the trade of blacksmith that he followed throughout his life, in Hanover, MA, when he was young.
He married Jerusha Palmer, daughter of Elisha and Jerusha (Stetson) Palmer, in 1780.
Ephraim served in the Revolutionary War for several years, starting on April 19, 1775, when he was one of the Minutemen who marched on the alarm at Lexington and Concord. He seems to have served in various companies through 1781, when he was at West Point with the 2nd Massachusetts Regiment under Capt. Bailey.
After the war, he and his wife lived in Duxbury, Mass, where all 5 of their children were born. In 1820, he was living in Duxbury and deposed that he was 63 years old and unable to work. A complaint was made against him that year claiming that "by his expensive disbursing to spend, waste and lessen his estate as thereby to expose himself to want and suffering circumstances." The court placed him under the guardianship of Studley Sampson of Duxbury 2 weeks later.
He died on September 26 or 27 in 1824, at the age of 70.
