On Thursday, Oct. 9th, at midnight, there passed away in the North Shore Hospital, an old and respected resident pioneer of the Hawkesbury, in the person of Mr. Charles Watkins. Deceased was born at Lower Hawkesbury Point 86 years ago, and has resided on the River all his life. His first marriage was to Miss Starkey. who had ten children (five daughters and one son surviving), and there are two daughters by the second marriage. There was a very large attendance at the graveside. The Rev. Hannington conducted the burial service. The remains were brought by rail to Hawkesbury River station, and thence by mail launch by Capt. Smith. The body was laid to rest in the Church of England portion of the cemetery near Wiseman's Ferry. Many beautiful wreaths covered the coffin. Four sisters and one brother live to mourn their loss. Deceased leaves about 40 grandchildren.
