Biography

Paul was the son of vicar Paul Fredrik Watz and his second wife. Paul's father was in his 70s when Paul was born and passed away when Paul was 3. The household records note that Paul's mother suffered from epilepsy. She passed away a year after his father. In 1883, after the death of his mother, Paul moved to teacher Karl Johan Karlstedt and his wife Josefina Gustafva Elisabet Gabrielsson. Paul was 5 years old at the time. He was still living with them as a foster child the 1890 census.

In the 1900 census, Paul lived in Malmö and worked as a clerk. In 1910 he was married and working as a language teacher.

Paul was buried on June 12 1944.

Research Notes

Paul's father remarried late in life and Paul was decades younger than his half-siblings. Paul's father was 73 at the time of Paul's birth, and Paul's mother was 25. Paul's birth was recorded in Hallingeberg parish but the household records there state that he was born in Skövde. As his father was the vicar and responsible for keeping the records, it is probable that Skövde was his place of birth. In any case, after the marriage of his parents (he was born while they were still betrothed), Paul lived in Hallingeberg.
