John was born in January of 1826.[1] His death certificate lists his parents as unknown and his birthplace as Germany.
He sailed from LeHavre to New York, arriving April 26, 1852 on the ship St. George. His uncle, John Morhr was already in Fort Wayne and owned a shoe store. John was a shoemaker by trade.[2]
On August 4, 1853, John married Anna Maria Hergenrother. They had four children, but only John Jr. Lived to be an adult.[3]
The 1860 Census shows John and Mary living in Wayne Township of Allen County. John is listed at 34 years old, Mary at 30, and John, Jr at 6. Mary and John are listed as being from Kurhessen (Hessen Kassel). It shows John as a shoemaker.[4]
Anna died in 1862, and John married the widow Catherine Kretz Ofenloch on April 12, 1863.[5]
The 1870 Census shows Johan and Catherine living in the 8th Ward of Fort Wayne, IN. John is working at the "W. Flour Mills." In the household was John, 44 and Catherine, 44, John Weber Jr., 15, Barbara,6, and Frank, 3. Also in the household was Catherine's son from her first marriage, John Ofenlock, 13.[6]
John passed away on December 29, 1901. He died from asthma and old age. He was buried on January 2, 1901.[7]
