Biography

Mary was born in 1796 based on the census of 1851 showing her aged 55.[1]

Mary was the child of John Welling and Elizabeth Darby. Originally from Moncton area, the family was among the founding members of First Baptist Church, Moncton following a revival in 1827 (see John Mills' profile for details).

Mary married John Mills 29 Nov 1814 and they had several children (most are listed below in the census of 1851).

One of the most important sources is Register of marriages for the county of Westmorland, 1790-1835 containing the marriage registrations of most of Reuben Mills' children. It is puzzling that the records are all in Dorchester, however, Dorchester included parts of Westmorland and Shediac parishes. The page numbers for the Mills marriages include:

  • David - Married Jane - 1808 - Dorchester. Image 13, document page 9.
  • Lewis - Married Jerusha - 1823 - Westmorland — Too hard to read, maybe near page 80 based on the date? The writing is terrible and I couldn’t locate their names.
  • Mary - Married Pharez Constantine - 1811 - Dorchester. Image 16, document page 14.
  • John - Married Mary Welling - 1814 - Dorchester. Image 27, document page 36. (Marriage date 9 Nov 1814. Registration date 24 Jan 1815).
  • Peter - Married Rhoda Constantine - 3 Oct 1815 - Dorchester. Image 31, document page 44.
  • Felix - Married Jane - 1824 - Dorchester - Unknown details since the microfilm image is washed out. (around page 88 based on the dates).
  • Samuel - Married Rebecca - Unknown date/location - Their eldest child was born 1824 so marriage date likely around 1822/1823.
