Biography

Jacob West was born about 1776 in Onslow, Province of North Carolina, son of Levi West (1726–1787) and Mary Williams (1731– ).[1][2]

Jacob married Barshaba Unknown (born about 1776). Their children were:

He was a private in Capt. John Barkersville's Company, Col. John Coffee's Cavalry of West Tennessee Volunteers in the War of 1812.[3]

In the 1850 census Jacob (age 74) was in Petersburg, Menard, Illinois, United States.[4]

In the 1860 census Jacob (widowed age 85) was in Abingdon City, Knox, Illinois, United States.[5]

Jacob died on 9 March 1868 in Abingdon, Knox, Illinois, United States, aged about 91. He was buried in Cherry Grove Cemetery, Abingdon, Knox County, Illinois.[2]

James West who died in 1861 in Itawamba County, Mississippi is not the son of Jacob West and Bersheba Cooper. There is no record of proof. James West is in the line of James West, born around 1725. He lived in Bladen, Duplin, and Robeson Counties of North Carolina.
