George as born at Broken Hill on October 9, 1892, being the younger son of Mr. J. W. Westmore, of Burwood. He was educated at the Mosman and Waverley Superior Public Schools, and joined the advertising department of Sydney Morning Herald in March, 1911.
George's trade was "Stenographer"
George served in AIF during WWI and passed away from the affects of Mustard Gas poisoning in 1922.
He enlisted in August, 1915, in reinforcements for the 7th Light Horse Regiment, and sailed with them at the end of October as Acting-Corporal.
In April, 1916, he was transferred to the 10th Field Artillery, and, on arriving in France, went into the line near Armentieres.
He was engaged in the actions at Fleurbaix, Flers, and in the Somme area generally, including Bullecourt, and also took part in the operations at Messines Ridge and Passchendaele.
In the latter battle he received injuries that necessitated a long spell in hospital and was afterwards declared to be permanently incapacitated.
His only brother, R. D. Westmore, saw three years service at the front. His grave is in Rookwood General Cemetery, Anglian Section 6, Grave 3579.
