Biography

Isaac Wheeler was born in 1661 in Dedham, Massachusetts colony. He was the son of Richard Wheeler and his second wife Sarah Prescott. The Wheeler family originated in England from the Bourne End, Cranfield, Bedfordshire parish. Isaac was one of 13 children born of Richard Wheeler with 2 wives. Isaac was the second son of 7 siblings born to Sarah Wheeler. [1]

Isaac married Experience Metcalf in 1683, daughter of Mary (Chickering) and John Metcalf. [2]

Isaac and Experience had, in Lancaster and Medfield 8 children:[3][4]

  • Experience, b. Nov. 22, 1684 in Lancaster, died the same day
  • Isaac, b. Nov. 22, 1684 in Lancaster, died 4 days later
  • John, b. July 24, 1686 in Lancaster, must have died before 1730 since not named in his father's will.
  • Mary, b. about 1692, but mentioned in her father's will, married Joseph Boyden, died in 1765.
  • Richard, b. about 1694, but mentioned in his father's will, settled in Worcester
  • Experience, b. about 1696 and mentioned in her father's will, married Joseph Clark, then Daniel Wedge of Mendon, died in 1774
  • Isaac, b. May 14, 1698 in Medfield
  • Abraham, b. Nov. 26, 1700 in Medfield, settled in Worcester

Isaac Wheeler of Medfield died in Medfield on Feb. 8, 1730-1[5]

Isaac's will was signed 1 December 1725 and proved in Boston on March 4, 1730. He left one-third of his Medfield properties to his wife, and one-third of everything for her use during her life. To son Richard he bequeathed all the land and property in Worcester that had already been given to him in writing. To son Isaac, all his Medfield properties, after allowing his mother's one-third, and the will requires Isaac to pay five pounds each to Isaac;s daughters Mary Boyden and Experience Clark. To son Abraham, the rest of his lands in Worcester not already given to Richard. [6]
