Note NI4182On WW I draft registration dated June 5 1918, Silvo lists his residence as 2200 Willow, Austin, Texas. Same address is given for his mother, listed as nearest relative. He named his employer as J. F. Johnson at Camp Mabry, Austin. Silvo O. Wheeler was a private in the 8th Prov. Co. of the Infantry Regiment of Texas National Guard. Enlisted on July 7, 1918 for 3 years as a single man.

Obituary notice in Carlsbad Paper - Heart Attack Kills S. O. 'Bo' Wheeler S. O. "Bo" Wheeler, 52, partner in operation of the Spencer and Wheeler vegetable farm near Carlsbad, died yesterday. He had gone out into one of the farm fields to irrigate, and apparently had suffered a heart attack. Wheeler was born Nov. 23, 1896, in Delta County, Texas, and had been living in Carlsbad and vicinity for a number of years. Before taking up farming, he had been a butcher at the Morrison Grocery, 414 North Guadalupe. The farm is located on the South Hiway just east of the airfield. He is survived by his mother, Mrs. O. M. Rikard; his wife, Mrs S. O.Wheeler; a son, Silvo O. Wheeler, Jr.; two daughters, Mrs. Raymond Spencer and Mrs. Louis Keach; six grandsons and one granddaughter. Funeral service will be held at 3 P.M. tomorrow at the West Funeral Home. Masonic services will be held at the grave site.

The following dates were taken from a "diary" kept by Clara (Collins)Wheeler. October 6, 1935 - Silvo left family in Austin and went to Carlsbad, New Mexico with Frank and Ruby Austin to look for work. October 8, 1935 - Silvo went to work in Carlsbad and sent for family October 24, 1935 - Jess Freeman took Clara and kids to Carlsbad in Ford. Left Austin 3 A.M. - arrived in Carlsbad 6 P.M. April 15, 1936 - Silvo's mother, A. B. Rikard, arrived from Austin (not clear from notes whether she stayed at that time.) March 2 & 3, 1940 - Clara made note that Silvo was sick "for the first time since we were married."
