Walter Whipp was born in Yorkshire, England.

Walter was the fifth, of eight, children born to James Whipp, and Clara Alice Normington. Walter was Baptized on July 24, 1892, along with his Brother, James Edgar, at Holy Trinity Church in Lawkholm, Keighley. Walter married Mary Ann Whurr in Keighley in 1914.
