Biography

Birth and Parents

Jonathan, the first son and third of ten children of John Whitcomb Sr. Esq. and Becke Whitcomb was born on 26 January 1749 at Bolton, Massachusetts.[1]

Marriage and Children

Jonathan was married twice. He married 1) Achsah Fairbanks (1751-1796), the daughter of Ephraim and Achsah Goeth (Houghton) Fairbanks on 30 March 1772 at Bolton, Worcester, Massachusetts.[2] They had nine children born at Bolton, Massachusetts:

  1. John Whitcomb [Twin] (b. 1 Jan 1774; d. 1 Sep 1862, Fitchburg, MA),[3][4] m. 23 Aug 1796 at Bolton, MA, Lucy Howe (1773-1816)

Jonathan married 2) Mary Gardner, the daughter of Rev. Francis and Sarah (Gibson) Gardner on 18 October 1796 at Leominster, Worcester, Massachusetts.[18] They had six children born at Bolton, Massachusetts:

Death and Burial

Jonathan Whitcomb died on 14 February 1830 in his 80th year at Bolton, and is buried in the Old South Burying Ground at Bolton, Worcester, Massachusetts.[27]
