Biography

Emma was born in about 1866.

She emigrated from England to South Africa, where she married Henry James Hillary circa 1899.

They went on to have three children:

  1. Doreen Ruth Hillary (b. 1900, d. 23 Mar 1972)
  2. Doris Gwendoline Hillary (b. 11 Jun 1901)
  3. Harry White Hillary (b. 4 Oct 1903, d. 27 Aug 1986)

Emma returned to South Africa with her husband, where he passed away in 1919 at the age of 65.

She passed away on 31 December 1953 at the age of 87[1]. Causes of death were recorded as Lobar Pneumonia, Myocardial Degeneration and Senility.

Emma was buried with her husband at St. Thomas's Cemetery, Ridge Road, KwaZulu-Natal, Durban, South Africa[2][3].
