Frank Durward White was best recognized as the little-known Republican candidate who defeated Bill Clinton in 1980 after Clinton had served only one term as governor.
Frank's father died when he was a small boy, his mother remarried and he was adopted by his step-father, Loftis E. White.

His first marriage to Mary Blue Hollenberg, a member of a prominent Little Rock family, White had three children, this marriage ended in divorce.
In 1975, two years after his divorce, White married Gay Daniels, 14 years his junior, who survived him. White and Daniels acquired custody of the children from his first marriage, but they had no children together.
