Robert C. Anderson lists all of John Whitmarsh's children, and there was not one named James. A surviving passenger list for the Marygould dated March 20, 1634/5 lists the Whitmarche family as passengers, specifically, it mentions John as Jmo. Whitmarcke ... aged 11 (see profile for John). Some transcribers have misinterpreted the Jmo. as Jms., which then becomes James. Thus, this non-existent James is based on a misreading of the passenger list entry for John. ^[1]
