Samuel Wickersham’s youngest son, Joel C., a partner with his father in the woolen factory, was born in Pike County, Ohio, June 15, 1850. He served an apprenticeship in the woolen factory when young, and he has since been in charge of such industries superintending. In 1874, he came with his father to Westboro, and became a member of the firm. For two years he has been associated with J. M. Boyd & Son, of Hillsboro, in buying and shipping wheat.... In the beginning the woolen factory made only rolls which the people carried home and spun into yarn for their own use. spinning and weaving machinery was installed, driven by an overshot water wheel. The early spinning and carding mill set up by the Baldwins was used only for the flax which was grown in the area.[1]

Joel C. Wickersham ... is engaged in the general mercantile business in Clinton County and prominent in political circles.[2]

OBITUARY: J. C. Wickersham, 85, a resident of Midland City for 40 years, died Wednesday at 8 A.M. at the home of his daughter, Mrs. John Drake, near Westboro. Suffering from a complication of diseases for several months, Mr. Wickersham had been seriously ill for nearly three weeks. Born in Highland County June 15, 1850, Mr. Wickersham went to Midland City where he engaged in the coal and feed business. He was a member of the Midland City M.E. Church, and for 28 years was superintendent of the Sunday School there.

Besides Mrs. Drake, he is survived by his widow, Mrs. Emma Wickersham, a daughter, Mrs. Halcy Hague, of Dearborn, Mich.; two sons, W. W. Wickersham of Blanchester, president of the county Board of Education and Newton Wickersham, of Cincinnati; one brother, Isaac Wickersham of Omaha, Neb.; and one sister Mrs. Emma Grove, of Greenfield.
