HENRY WIDDIFIELD, II 1779-1869
QUAKER PREACHER
Henry WIDDIFIELD, II was born on the 28th of June 1779 in Kingwood Township, Hunterdon County, New Jersey the son of Henry Widdifield 1st 1743-1804 and his wife, Martha Willson 1754-1836.
Children of Henry2nd's Father, Henry 1st and Mother, Martha Widdifield:
Henry, Martha Widdifield, and their family were of the Quaker Religion. Quakerism emphasizes human goodness because of a belief that something of God exists in everyone. Their Church meetings are held regularly, usually once or twice a week.
At the turn of the nineteenth century, Henry Widdifield II had migrated from Pennsylvania with his father's family in company with other Quakers seeking new homes in Upper Canada. He promised his sweetheart, Phoebe RANDALL 1774-1855 that he would return and claim her as his bride. Her parents, Comley and Mary Randall didn't want their daughter submitted to the harsh rigors of pioneer life in Canada, but, when Henry Widdifield, II reappeared he was twenty six years old. His maturity and stories of the new land, and the provisions he had made for her reassured Phoebe's parents and they removed their objections. On the 23rd of January 1805, Henry Widdifield, II married his little Quaker maid sweetheart, Phoebe RANDALL. They both returned to Canada on horseback and among her few treasured possessions she carried some sterling silver spoons which have been passed down through the family.
