Viola, daughter of Melvin F Wilbur & Mildred Wilbur, was born on 4 January 1919 in Scarborough, Cumberland, Maine, United States.^[1]

Viola married (1) Henrick V Peterson on 10 May 1940 in Maine, United States.^[2]

Viola M. (38) married (2) Alfred V. Dyer on 23 June 1957 in Maine.^[3][4][5]

Viola died (age 85) on 9 August 2004 residing at 04107, Cape Elizabeth, Cumberland, Maine, United States.^[6]

Viola M. was buried on 12 August 2004 in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, South Portland, Me.

VIOLA M. DYER

SCARBOROUGH - Viola M. Dyer, 85, died Monday, August 9, after a courageous battle with leukemia.

She was diagnosed with leukemia in 2000, and after chemo was in remission. The cancer returned and Viola had surgery in 2003.

Born at home in Scarborough on January 6, 1919, Mrs. Dyer was a daughter of Melvin and Mildred French Wilbur.

She was educated in Scarborough schools and was a 1936 graduate of Scarborough High School.

Viola worked winters in Florida, then went to Colorado Springs for 2 1/2 years, where she managed the P. X. cafeteria and later the officers club at ENT Air Force Base, and took courses to prepare for work with Civil Service.

Other than her roots in Maine, Colorado Springs would have been her second choice of places to live.

Mrs Dyer returned to Maine in 1956 and bought a house in Cape Elizabeth. She eventually started and ran her own successful custom drape and slip-cover business.

Viola was very interested in the environment and loved to watch the birds in her backyard. She also enjoyed walking in Fort Williams Park and feeding the ducks with her home made corn bread.

Mrs Dyer was predeceased by a sister, Ruth Warming, who died in 1964, and a son, Carl Peterson, who died in 1991.

Her memory will be cherished by three grandchildren, Mark and Michael Peterson of Portland and Kristen Hobbs of New York; a great granddaughter and a great grandson. She is also survived by a sister, Edna Smith and her husband Allen Smith of Scarborough; and several nieces and nephews, among them Sally Petit and her husband Robert of Saco.

Viola felt like she had a full and rich life and was very blessed.

Calling hours at the Hobbs Funeral Home, 230 Cottage Road, South Portland, will be held from 12 - 2 p.m., Thursday, August 12, where a funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Interment will follow in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, South Portland.
