Research Notes

Norman Willcox has him in our tree as being son of Samuel Wilcoxson b c.1663 & Ruth Westcott m Keziah Kelsey 3 Mar 1731 Killingworth Conn. children Eliab b. 23 Feb 1731, Keziah b. 3 June 1742, Russel b. 31 Dec1736, Josiah b. 14 May 1739, Elizabeth b. 26 Jan 1745, Abner b. 10 July 1748, John Day b. unk.

Our tree continues through Eliab. I have no sources and I am trying to obtain verification; this info was found by an American relative, now dead. This was her comment "I think he was the first in your line to drop the "son" off the name and to write it Wilcox. He married Keziah Kelsey of Killingworth 3 March 1731 and removed to Dutchess County N.Y. about 1758. This family became baptists. Previous generations had been of the Congregational Church. There were 4 boys and 3 girls. Error in dates; marriage date cannot be in the same year as the son was born" Note spelling of Killingworth Conn.

There is a problem with the mother and wife of Josiah Wilcox(son). They are both listed as Ruth E. Westcott (Westcott-81). Did he marry his mother?? I don't think so. It seems chronologically correct that Josiah is Ruth's and Samuel's son. There must be a mistake in the listing of Josiah's wife.

Hi Scott, Where does your info come from? My tree, admittedly without certified sources, has Josiah married to Keziah (Kelsey) Wilcox. Josiah's father Samuel married Ruth Westcott.

Where does the confusion come from?

Yes, that's what your Wikitree page shows. But, you also show that Josiah was married to Ruth E. Westcott as well (same name as his mother). This is the confusion.

Thank you Scott. None so blind as won't see! Sorry for the error. I have edited Ruth out.

Wikitree has two Samuels 18 and 117. One of these maybe incorrect. My tree shows a Samuel b abt 1663 as being the father of Josiah. And that would take us through Joseph1 b abt 1635 to William Wilcockson from Derbyshire from whom I am descended according to my DNA.
