Biography

1776 Project
Private Joseph Wilder served with 18th Massachusetts Bay Provincial Regiment (1775), Continental Army during the American Revolution.

Joseph Wilder was born in Leominster on November 26, 1745. His parents were Thomas Wilder and Mary White. [1]

He was a Private in Capt. Abel Wilder's company of minutemen, Col. Ephraim Doolittle's regiment. He was later in Capt. John Boynton s (8th) co., Col. Nathan Sparhawk s (7th Worcester Co.) regt. of Massachusetts militia. [2] [3] [4] [5]

He married Anna Barrett in Lunenburg, Massachusetts, March 8, 1782. [6]

Together they had 5 children, all born in Winchendon:[6]

  1. Joseph Wilder, b. 1783.
  2. Thomas Wilder, b. 1784.
  3. James Wilder, b. 1786.
  4. Luke Wilder, b. 1788.
  5. Abel Wilder, b. 1793.

He died on November 16, 1823 in Winchendon, Massachusetts. [6]
