Biography

Matthew Wilkins served as a private in the US war with Mexico. He and other Texas troops were sent down to the Rio Grande. They were mustered out in a town on the Mexican side of the river at a place called Camargo. .

When the Civil War started, Matthew served in the militia in Burnet County. He lived near the town of Oatmeal.

Matthew was the 11th child born to Jonathan William Wilkins 1784-1844 and Mary Garrett 1784-1868: this couple had 19 children
