Mrs. A. H. (Jose) Brisco
Mrs. A. H. “Jose” Brisco, of Sheridan, was born in Floresville, Texas on March 14, 1899 to Young and Sarah Flemmings Williams.
Mary Josephine Williams was united in marriage to A. H. “Bud” Brisco on February 18, 1917 in Sheridan. The family with their three oldest children moved to the Lissie community in 1922, later moving to Eagle Lake and raising their family there. After the death of her husband, Mrs. Brisco moved to New Summerfield, Texas, living in her trailer next door to her youngest daughter, Barbara. The last few months were spent with another daughter, Gertrude, in Berwick, Louisiana, where she died May 31 at 10 a.m. in a Louisiana hospital.
Mrs. Brisco dearly loved doing hand-work, to which despite her age, her eyesight permitted her to do many lovely pieces of hand-work; which included many beautiful quilt tops. Another pleasurable pasttime was her many photo albums of her family and all their activities. The three “chipper” little sisters thoroughly enjoyed being together, sharing their many family experiences and visiting their families.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, in 1972; a sister, Mrs. Alice Williams Cloud; one son, Billy Brisco; two daughters, Verna Brisco and Mrs. W. A. (Margie) Rooks; three grandchildren, Michael Wayne Brisco, Rusty Hall and Bertice Lee Dittrich.
Surviving are two sisters, Mrs. Everitt (Clara Bell) Humbird of Alvin, Mrs. Minnie Melton of Edna; four daughters, Mrs. Frank (Eva Lee) Dittrich of Lissie, Mrs. Lee J. (Eve Lois) Neimeyer of Hockley, Mrs. Wayne (Gertrude) Sizemore of Berwick, Louisiana and Mrs. Billy H. (Barbara) Hall of New Summerfield; two sons, Leslie Lonzo and Jesse Monroe Brisco of Eagle Lake; ten grandchildren and fifteen great grandchildren.
Pallbearers were John Cryer, Larry Piekert, Freddie Walker III, Rober (Bobby) Rooks, Clharles and Frankie (Peanut) Brisco.
The service was held at Dulany Funeral Chapel on Sunday, June 2 at 3 p.m. conducted by Pastor Melburn Sibley. Burial was in Cheetham Cemetery. Clara May Nash, organist, accompanied Linda Ferguson, soloist, as she sang “Nearer My God To Thee” and “Shall We Gather at the River.”
