Biography

Joseph Williams was born in about 1838 at Great Rollright in Oxfordshire. He was baptised at Great Rollright parish church on 31 August 1838, as the son of Richard and Frances Williams. His father was a farmer. ^{[1] [2]}

On 25 August 1866 he married Emma Sandford, a daughter of Richard Sandford of the village of Long Compton, Warwickshire, in the parish church of that place.^[3]

In 1891 Joseph Williams was living at Great Rollright with his wife Emma, their children, and a granddaughter. His age was given as 52, implying a birth date in 1838 or 1839. His birthplace was given as Great Rollright, Oxfordshire. He was employed as an agricultural labourer. ^[2]

In 1901 he was still living at Great Rollright with his wife Emma and daughter Violet (11), his sole remaining child who had not yet left home. ^[4]

He died in the first half^[5] of 1909,^[6] probably in his home village of Great Rollright.^[5]
