John W. Williams Jr., resident of Ponca City, passed away Wednesday morning, March 1, 2006, at the side of family and friends. He was 65.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, March 3, at Grace Memorial Chapel.
John was born May 17, 1940, in Douglas County, Mo., the son of John W. Williams Sr. and Eula May Curtis Williams. He attended Ponca City schools.
John entered the United States Navy on Feb. 10, 1958. He served on many ships that included the USS Sperry, USS Coral Sea and the USS Enterprise. On May 7, 1976, he was transferred to Fleet Reserve Duty and was honorably discharged from the Navy on Nov. 1, 1986.
John's enjoyments included spending time with his family, fishing and telling fish tales.
He is survived by four sons, Christopher Williams of Columbia, Tenn., Mark Williams of Pleasant Hill, Calif., Jeffrey Williams of Antioch, Calif., and Erick Williams of Clinic Township, Mich.; two brothers, Doyne Woolsey of Aztec, N.M., and Dennis Williams of Oklahoma City; one sister, Betty Wilson of Meridian; eight grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; and special friend, Allegra Harney.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Bessie Ann Chambers.
The family has requested memorial contributions be made to Hospice of North Central Oklahoma, 1904 North Union, Suite 103, Ponca City, Okla. 74601.
