Biography

Flag of Cornwall (St Piran's Cross, pre-1838)
William Williams was born in Sithney, Cornwall, England.

William, the son of John Williams was born say 1819 at Sithney, Cornwall. William's occupation throughout his life was 'tin miner' in Sithney, then Breage.

William married Elizabeth Ann Dunstone, daughter of Thomas Dunstone on 7 September 1839 at Crowan, Cornwall, England, UK.[1]They had seven children born at Cornwall:

  1. Elizabeth Ann Williams (b. 5 Mar 1840)
  2. William Williams (b. 1846, Sithney),
  3. John Williams (b. 1847, Sithney),
  4. Mary Williams (b. 1852, Sithney),
  5. Thomas H Williams (b. 1854, Breage),
  6. Harriet Williams (b. 1856, Breage),
  7. Edwin Williams (b. 1862, Breage).

The 1851 census shows that William was 32 years of age and living at Sithney with his wife, Elizabeth, 35 years of age, and children Elizabeth Ann (listed by her middle name Ann), 10 years of age, William (5 years), John (4 years) and Mary, an infant. William's occupation is listed as 'Tin Miner.' He and their children were born at Sithney, and his wife was born at Wendron.[2]

In 1861, William, 42 years of age and Elizabeth, 45 years of age were living with their seven children at Breage, Cornwall where William worked as a Tin Miner. Their children included 'Eliza' (alias Elizabeth), 17 years of age, William (15 years), John (14 years), Mary (9 years), Thomas H (7 years) and Harriet (5 years). The two youngest children were born at Breage. Daughter Eliza worked as a 'Tin Dresser,' while sons William and John worked as 'Tin Miners.'[3]

The 1871 census shows William (52 years) and Elizabeth (54 years) still residing in Breage where William worked as a tin miner. The children living at home included Mary (20 years), Harriet (15 years) and Edwin 9 years.[4]

In 1881, William, aged 61 years and Elizabeth listed as 66 years of age on this census were living in Breage where William worked as a tin miner. This census suggests that all of their children left home.[5]

There is no further information about William Williams at this time. He likely died after 1881 at Cornwall, England, UK.
