David wrote an extensive memoir, to which are appended genealogies of his own and his first wife's families. He was a Methodist minister who supported his family by operating sawmills. He served the church throughout Missouri, and in Iowa, Arkansas and Alabama. After his first wife, Lelia, died, he married a widow who also was a Methodist minister, and served with her in several locations. When she also died, David married the widowed mother of his own son-in-law, James Kinion. This wife, Alta Alexander, was also a cousin of David's first wife.
