Biography

From the Lord Family Genealogical Research of my great grandfather Isaac Purl Lord (1858-1942), who was Mary's 2nd great grandson:

"OF THE FAMILY OF WISE OF IPSWICH MAINE:

"Ammi Ruhami Wise of Ipswich Maine, father of Mary Wise, wife of Thomas Lord of Berwick, Me., was an eminent merchant and the son of Rev. John Wise, the famous Divine of Chebacoo Parish, Ipswich, Mass. Ammi Ruhami Wise served in the West Indies and was one of the most prominent men at Ipswich.

"Henry Wise, the father of Mary Wise, the second wife of Thomas Lord of Berwick Me., was a younger brother of Ammi Ruhami Wise, and this Henry Wise as well as his father Rev. John Wise, graduated from Harvard University. Henry was a merchant at Boston and Ipswich Mass and for some time Teacher of the Grammar School at Ipswich.

"Rev. Jeremiah Wise, the well known Pastor of the First Church of Berwick, Me., and to whom Nathan Lord bequeathed the gold ring as a token (as has been before mentioned) was the eldest brother of Major Ammi Ruhami Wise.

"The Reverend John Wise,, the father of this family, was a son of Joseph and Abigail (Gardner) Wise (Note: this is in error - Abigail Gardner was Rev. John Wise' wife. His mother was Mary Thompson. SC) of Roxbury, Mass, and was highly distinguished in New England as a leading spirit. On his tombstone in the Burial Ground at Ipswich Mass was inscribed the following: "For talents, learning, and piety he shone as a star of the first magnitude."[1]

"Descendants of Rev. Jeremiah Wise are living and also of the other brothers. One daughter of Henry Wise, Abigail Wise, married John Berry, Esq.of Ipswich, son of the Hon. Col. Thomas Berry M. D., graduate of Harvard College, the son of Capt Thomas Berry of Boston and Margaret Rogers, daughter of the Rev. John Rogers, 5th president of that University."

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Mary by comparing test results with other carriers of her mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known mtDNA test-takers in her direct maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Mary:
