Biography

Mary Wishlade was born in 1811 in Kington, Herefordshire, England to Benjamin Wishlade and Thomasin (Thomas) Wishlade. She was christened on 21 Apr 1811 in Kington.^[1]

In 1841 Mary Wishlade (age 30-34) lived at North Drove in Deeping Fen, Lincolnshire in the household of Joseph Weltham.^[2]

Mary Wishlade, daughter of Benjamin Wishlade, married John Connop, son of James Connop, on 10 Mar 1846 in Kington.^[3] A marriage notice was published in the Hereford Times on 14 Mar 1846.^[4] The marriage was registered in Presteigne, Radnorshire in the first quarter of the year.^[5]

Mary and John had two children:

2. Mary Connop (1849-)

Mary's husband may be the John Connop whose death was registered in Hereford in the last quarter of 1848, aged 59 years.^[6]

In 1851 Mary Connop (age 39) and her two children - John (3) and Mary (2) - lived in Bedwellty, Monmouthshire in the household of her brother John Wishlade (35, Innkeeper), along with his wife Elizabeth (34) and two children: Mary T (4) and John B (3), as well as boarder James Fenvente (40, Whitesmith) and four servants: Mary Lewis (18, Waiter), Anne Williams (20, Barmaid), George Wileve (42, Brewer), and William Collins (20, Labourer & C).^[7]

In 1871 Mary Connop (age 60, Dressmaker) lived in Kington with her daughter Mary (22, Drapers Assistant), niece Elizth C Wishcade (4, Scholar), and apprentice Alice Handley (19, Dressmaker).^[8]

Mary Connop passed away in 1872, aged 62 years. Her death was registered in Kington in the last quarter of the year.^[9]
