Biography

Robert "Bob" was born on May 22, 1924. He was the son of Rex Wisner and Bess Havner. Bob grew up in Newton Massachusette and attended Union College in Schenectady N.Y. where he was a member of the Delta Upsilon Fraternity. After attend college for one year he enlisted in the armed service on May 25, 1943. Bob served in the U.S. Navy during WWII then returned home and continued his schooling. On Sept 4, 1948 he married Virginia Beatrice Crissey (Gini) . They had two children Julianne and Chris. Bob worked for NASA and for several years he and Gini lived in Louisiana. In the mid 1970's he was transferred to the state of Washington and then let go from his job. (NASA was downsizing and let many people go.) Bob got a job as a house painter and seemed to enjoy the work. He said that it was a nice change and quite an enjoyable vacation from all the stress he was used to.) NASA rehired Bob about two years later and he worked there until he retired. Their daughter Julianne "Julie" died of MS in 1984. It was very difficult for both Bob and Gini to recover from her death. In 1998 Bob and Gini celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary by returning to New England with son Chris, his wife, Rose, and their two grandchildren. Bob and Gini enjoyed genealogy during their retirement years. Bess [Havner-89] had given a picture album of the Havner and McLaughlin families to them and told Gini quite a bit about the family. Bob and Gini traveled to Georgia to visit Talbot and Covington. They did quite a bit of research on the family. Bob had a heart condition which became worse over the years. Gini put off dealing with her health problems and took care of Bob during his last illness. He passed away in 2002.
