Maria Wojciechowska, the daugher of Ignacy Wojciechowski and Anna Mietkiewicz, was born in 1871.
She married Walenty Szymczak in 1891 in Wilczyn, Poland. A few months later, they arrived in the US and settled in the Polish section of Cleveland, Ohio near St. Casimir's Church. She was known as Mary only in the United States. Many of her Mietkiewicz cousins lived nearby. Walenty and Maria had two sons and three daughters in Cleveland between 1891 and 1900.
Walenty and his family returned to the Poland after 1900. They lived next to Mateusz Wojciechowski, Maria's brother, in Gogolina Nowa. After their return, they had a son born in 1905 and child born in 1908 who died at birth. Three of Walenty and Maria's US born children returned permanently to the United States when they were adults.
Maria died in 1908 from smallpox and is buried at St. Andrzej Parish Cemetery, Kleczew.
