On 20 Nov 1874, Euphemia was born at 163 Mordaunt Street in the district of Bridgeton in the burgh of Glasgow, Scotland.[1] Her parents were given as James WOOD, Engine Fitter (Journeyman) and Euphemia WOOD née FORTUNE, who had married on 7 Feb 1868 in Edinburgh.[1]
Euphemia was named after her maternal grandmother Euphemia FORTUNE née COSSAR.[2]
In 1881, age 6, she lived with her parents and brother James (3) at 4 Silverfir Street in the district of Hutchesontown, within the parish of Govan, Lanarkshire, Scotland.[3]
In 1891, age 16, she worked as a Dressmaker and lived with her cousin Mary Jane Campbell BRAID (53, Ex-Teacher) at Leslie Place, Edinburgh, Scotland.[4]
On 20 Jun 1895, age 20, she married David FINLAYSON in her home at 5 Portgower Place, Edinburgh, Scotland.[5] Her father was given as "James WOOD, Marine Engineer (deceased)" and her mother was "Euphemia WOOD M.S. FORTUNE (deceased)".[5] Effie FORTUNE was one of the witnesses [a cousin perhaps?].[5]
In 1911, age 35, she lived with her daughter Effie (11, at School) on Dundarroch Street in Larbert, Stirlingshire, Scotland.[6] Also present in the household was a visitor, Ellen GRAHAM (22, Tracer (Engineering)).[6]
On 7 Oct 1911, she sailed with her daughter Euphemia on the SS Cameronia from Glasgow bound for New York.[7] Also traveling in the same party were her husband's cousins Agnes and Effie.[7] The party were joining her husband David who lived at 1487 Bedford Avenue, Brooklyn, New York.[8] Agnes and Effie's brothers James and Robert had arrived four months earlier in June.[8]
On 25 Jan 1913, her 13 year old daughter Euphemia passed away at 671 Lincoln Pl., Brooklyn, Kings, New York, USA.[9].
In March 1921, Effie joined the Flatbush Congregational Church at Dorchester Road and East 18th Street, Brooklyn, NY.[10]
On 7 Sep 1934, age 57, she arrived in New York aboard the SS Caledonia, having sailed from Glasgow on 29 Aug.[11] Euphemia's was a Widow and worked as a Houskeeper.[11] Her last permanent address and final destination were both given as Brookyn, NY, USA and she had last left the USA on 27 May 1933, having been in the USA from 1911 to 1933.[11] Euphemia was 5ft 8in tall and had brown hair, blue eyes and a fair complexion.[11] Her nearest relative in Scotland was given as her brother James WOOD of 11 Glebe Street, Falkirk.[11] Euphemia was returning to 7520 7th Av. in Brooklyn, New York which was the address of her husband's cousin Agnes KNOX [whom she had brought with her to the USA in 1911].[11]
On 19 Oct 1956, age 81, Euphemia passed away.[12] At the time, she was a Widow living with her friend Mrs M. T. GALBREATH in Pomona, Rockland County, NY, USA.[12] On 22 Oct 1956, she was buried in West New Hempstead Cemetery, 221 Brick Church Road, Spring Valley, NY.[12][13]
