Biography

Margaret was 5th recorded child of William and Mary Wood, born 26th of the 10th month 1693, so in December in the Gregorian calendar.[1] Margaret was the second wife of John Stevenson. The first marriage had 6 children, and the second produced William, Susannah, and Mary. [2] According to the same reference, Mary died unmarried, 11 Jul 1818.

On the marriage date: At the Quaker monthly meeting on the 1st of the 8th month 1724 "John Stevenson & Margaret Wood both belonging to this meeting declared their intentions of taking each other in marriage whereupon this meeting appoints our Friends John Fantum & John Abbott . . .". The next month, on the 5th of the 9th month, 1724 ". . . the second time declared their intentions of taking each other in marriage & enquiry having been made do not find but they are clear from all others on the account of marriage . . . left to accomplish their said marriage . . .". Then on the 3rd of the 10th month 1724 there is a report that the last marriage was orderly.[3] I take this to be the Stevenson/Wood marriage, but names were not routinely mentioned in these post-wedding notes. Thus, the wedding date is between (only now converting to modern Gregorian dates) 5 Nov 1724 and 3 Dec 1724.
