THE AGE BOOK OF MICHAEL WOODS For one hundred and fifty years a small hand make book of thirty-two pages has been a precious heirloom in one branch of the Woods family--the last descendant to own it having been Miss Martha Harle Woods of Montgomery, Alabama. Mrs. Esker learned of the existance of this little book through the courtesy of Miss Francis (sic) Hails, Archivist of Alabama, and Mrs. Francis E. Pickett of Montgomery, in whose custody the treasured record had come to rest. Mrs. Esker was allowed to copy it for publication in Volume 54, Virginia Magazine of History. Later the book was presented to Mrs. Esker as gift. It is included in this Breazeale production because of the light it shes on the mystery of the identity of the first wife of Willis Breazeale Sr., and because if its interest to her descendants. The entries on the thirty-two pages are as follows: p. 1 Arch-d Woods, my father, was born on the 11th day of May 1706, on a Satterday night, and died ye 11th day of Dec-r on a Sunday night 1768, about 2 o'clock. Isabella Goss, my mother, was born on the 8th of Jan' 1716/17, in the evening, and died ye 2nd of Nov-r on a Sabbath, about quarter of an hour before sundown, 1766. p. 2 John Trimble and Susanah Woods were married ye 18th Feb-r 1768 and their first born, Arch-d, on Monda ye 19th Dec-r 1768. James Cowan and Hannah Woods married ye 24th Dec-r 1767 and their first born, Isabella ye 25th Oct-4 1768. p. 3 Myself, Mich-l Woods, born on ye 10th day of Nov-r 1735 on a Sunday morning, about 3 o'clock, and was married to Jean Leackey on ye 25th o Feb-r 1762, on a Thursday. We left Virginia ye 11th of Oct-r 1764 and settled down--- p. 4 on Savannah River ye 3rd of Jan-y 1765 on a Thursday. Jean died ye 11th of Sept-r 1766, about an hour before sundown on a Thursday. Brother John Woods died in Charleston on ye 3rd of Sept-4 1792 of a nervis fever and flux. p. 5 Our first son, Arch-d Woods, was born (about break of day on a Wednesday) ye 15th of June 1763. Our second, Hannah Woods, was born on a Thursday, about a quarter of an hour before day, ye 7th of March 1765, and she--- p. 6 Hannah Woods died the 21st day of August 1770, near midnight on a Wednesday, after a sickness of 15 day sof bloody flux, being five years, five months and, allmost, 15 days old. My wife, (2nd) Margaret was born ye 27th day of August 1740. p. 7 I, Mich-l Woods, and Margaret Trimble married ye 24th da of Dec-r 1767 on a Thirsday abut 1 o'clock. My third born, Isabella Woods, born ye 3rd day of Sept-r 1768, about 10 o'clock in ye forenoon on a Saturday. p. 8 My little boy intended to be called John Woods was born ye 8th of Oct-r 1770 on a Monday about 2 o'clock in ye afternoon and he died ye 27th of Nov-r 1770 about an hour before daylight, and he lay sick 7 days full out. p. 9 My fifth child, Michael Woods, was born ye 11th day of Dec-r 1771 about 2 o'clock on a Wednesday morning. My sixth child, Jane Woods, was born ye 2nd of March 1774 about 3 o'clock on a Wednesday morning. p. 10 My negro girl Tamer was born on ye 7th day of Jan-y 1756 on a Wednesday morning about sunrise. Black Hannah was bought of Hezekiah Rice, for a 10 year old girl, in the summer of 1763. p. 11 Fillis was born Dec-r ye 25th 1775 at one o'clock and 32 minutes on a Monday and Silvy about a minute later. Silvy died ye 27th July 1776 an Fillis died ye 11th day of Sept-r 1776 about a half hour after 4o'clock in the morning. p. 12
