Notes for Edwin Eugene Worden: 1. Was thought to be retarded until the age of seven. At that time a teacher took an interest in him and taught him one on one--- where upon he began to outdo most of the children of his age--- mentally and physically.

2. A wealthy man in the community, Royal Blake, took an interest in Edwin and educated him in Brandon Seminary, where he also did well.

3. At the beginning of the Civil War, he had an office of his own with a sign reading "E. E. Worden - Dental Surgeon". When he was 21 and most of the young men in the village had gone to war, he became restless, closed the doors of his dental office and entered The Pennsylvania Calvary. He had met Bertha Laffie before he entered service and she corresponded with him - but he did not return her letters. His Uncle Martin encouraged him to maintain contact. When he returned home- he had been discharged due to an injured hip and complications from the measles, the couple were married with Uncle Martin being best man.
