Biography

John Wright of Bedford County, Virginia, was born probably between June 10, 1732, and June 11, 1736, married Mary Pace/Pierce on January 14, 1756, St James Northam Parish, Goochland, Virginia, British Colonial America.[1][2], and died before Dec 26, 1814, at Bedford County, Virginia. His parents were John Wright (Goochland County Carpenter) and Judith (Easly) Wright.

There are two entries in Rev. William Douglas's register for the marriage. The first uses the variant name Pierce and has the actual marriage date. The other uses the name Pace and the birth date of their first born child. John mentions his wife in his will but she is not mentioned at all in any of the probate documents, leading to the assumption she had already died by 1814.

Private Captain Brent's Company, Prince William Co Virginia Militia, Revolutionary War 1780 and 1781.

John Wright Jr. appears in the tithe lists in the years 1752, 1754, 1755 and 1756 in the household of his father John Wright. He was not listed in the 1748 tithe lists or any earlier tithe lists, suggesting that he was born sometime between 1732 and 1736.

John Wright Jr first appears in a separate household in 1757. The establishment of a separate residence coincides with his marriage to Mary Pace in 1756.

Land

Robert Noel Grant did a wonderful job sorting out the deeds of the Wright family in Bedford County. The parcel of land bought by John can be known through his will where he wrote, "...I also give to my son Benjamin Wright after the death of his mother all the Tract of Land which I now live on Containing Three Hundred Acres more or less..." Will Book 9/295 describes the land in a division and allotment dated 9 Dec 1836. It was deeded twice, perhaps to clarify. These are in Deed Book 2/642 (27 Aug 1765 330 acres conveyed by John Echols to John Right of Goochland County) and 3/111 (23 June 1767 300 acres, describing the same land). It consisted of 2 tracts of land lying on the North side of Little Otter River, west of Machine Creek between on Eckholds (now Skinnels Creek) and Nininger Creeks. The 2nd deed slightly altered the boundaries and corrected the acreage.[3]

John wrote his will 28 Dec 1804, proved 26 Dec 1814.[4]

I'm curious to know if there is any kind of evidence that his middle name was Esle.
