Biography

Birth certificate: Born 6th April 1862 at 10am in Hilgay. Twin to sister Ellen. Name given as Arthur George, although at other times these have been juxtaposed.

Christening: 25th May 1862, Hilgay, Norfolk

Marriage certificate for son, William gives his father as George Arthur Wright (deceased), occupation: Labourer. I don't believe he was dead, but the family did not know what had happened to him. He was apparently a teetotaller, but due to a lung condition was advised to drink a pint of Guinness a day. following this he appears to have abandoned the family. From what I have discovered, I'm not convinced he was married to Mary Kate Kenny but appears to have had several children with her before returning to Norfolk. It is not clear quite how he came to be in London, but presumably for better paid employment. Mary Kate and he may have not married as she was Catholic, but she later did marry in the CofE.

1871 census: living in Fordham, Norfolk with parents and siblings.

1881 census: living in high Street, Hilgay, with parents and siblings. Occupation: Agricultural Labourer

1892: birth of son, William. Home address given as 36 Church Street, Rotherhithe and occupation given as Gas Factory Labourer

1901 census: living in Ainsty Street, Rotherhithe with wife and children. Occupation: General Labourer. Initials only given as AE (could have been an error for AG).

1911 census: living in Hilgay, Norfolk in the household of his brother-in-law and twin sister, Ellen. Occupation: Farm Labourer. Marital status given as single. With this and Mary Kate giving her condition as Spinster on her 1906 marriage, I believe they were not ever legally married.

Death: 12th October 1929, High Street, Hilgay. Arthur George Wright, Male, 67 Year, Farm Labourer

Cause of Death: Carcinoma of Stomach (Cancer), Inanition (exhaustion caused by lack of nourishment) Certified by James Gibb MD. Informant: Ellen Johnson, sister, High Street, Hilgay. Present at the death.

However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Arthur:
