Biography

Robert Wright was born on 20 Apr 1900 in St Helens, Lancashire. He was the son of Robert Wright and Winifred (Vose) Wright. His birth was registered in the second quarter of 1900, in Prescot district.

By March 31st 1901, the family were living at 19 Hanover Street, Eccleston. Robert's father was working as a glassworks labourer. His aunt Elizabeth and her two children Lily (now 10) and Ada (6) were staying with them as visitors. Also in the household were Robert's elder brother Walter (7) and Robert (11 months).

By April 2nd 1911, Robert and Winifred were still living in St Helens, and Robert was in the same job. Walter, now 17, was working as an apprentice bricklayer. The other children were too young to be working. The family had a boarder, Eva Forrest, who was working as a machinist.

The photograph of Robert, Harold and Harry is said to be from about 1910, but Harold was only born in 1909, and looks to be about four in the photo, so a date of around 1913-4 seems more likely. It might perhaps (if the date is late enough) have been taken so that Walter could have a photograph of them to take with him when he enlisted and left home.

Robert's mother died in 1930 in St Helens, aged 57. His father also died in about 1930, aged 57; his death was registered in the first quarter of 1931.

Robert married Margery Marsh, known as Madge, in 1938 at St Luke's Church in Eccleston, St Helens.

Madge died in 1976. She was cremated on August 7th 1976 at St Helens Crematorium.

Robert died in 1980 in St Helens. He was cremated on October 28th 1980 at St Helens Crematorium. His ashes weren't buried in the cemetery there.
