The son of John Wright III (1827-1878) and Nancy Ritter (1825-1896), Jefferson Wright was born in Lauderdale County, Alabama[citation needed] in 1861. His father passed away in 1878; in 1880, his mother headed the household, farming in Township a, Range 9, in Lauderdale County.[1] His siblings included:

Jerffeson married Rebecca C. Forsythe (1859-1944), the daughter of Benjamin Franklin Forsythe and Mary Howell Hill, marrying in Lauderdale County on August 16, 1882[2] and having nine known children together. In 1900, they farmed in Green Hill, Alabama.[3] In 1910, they farmed in Lexington, Alabama, also in Lauderdale County.[4] In 1920, they were enumerated again Green Hill, farming, residing on Stuts Road.[5] In 1930, Thomas and Rebecca lived in Lawrence County, Tennessee, just over the state line, where Jeff managed a café in District 1.[6]
Jefferson Wright passed away in Florence, Alabama at the age of 76[7] and is buried at Hill Cemetery in Antioch, Alabama.[8]
